Because “inclusive communication” is desired in the modern European Union, the European Union Equality Commission developed and published guidelines in 2021, according to which all words that exclude non-Christians should be replaced by inclusive words. This is reported by the “Berliner Zeitung”.
Instead of writing “The Christmas season can be exhausting,” you should write: “The holiday season can be exhausting.” For example, Christian names like “Maria and Joseph” should be replaced by more European names like “Malika and Julio.”
The aim is to show everyone living in the EU that they are both “valued” and “recognized” “regardless of gender, skin color, religion and ethnicity”.
